Great blog Fiona - and I love the sound of this book, the fire that inspires a dancer and the ice that must drive all the rehearsal and perfectionism to create the fire. Sounds like a winner! I love that Nora Roberts acculturated you, and that her cadences and worlds still ring true for you.

Maybe I acculturated into the wrong century! I always think of Jane Austen when I look back to who inspired me. And I do re-read them every so often.

I seem to be reading the question differently than others. I'm thinking of books I read when I was very young that made me want to keep going back to the library, or get books as gifts (still some of my very favorite gifts are books). From that POV, favorite authors that made me into a lifelong reader would be: Louisa May Alcott (Little Women - which I read at age 6 from the public library, needing to renew it once to be able to finish it), Carolyn Keene (Nancy Drew books), Laura Lee Hope (Bobbsey Twins), Helen Wells (Cherry Ames), among others.

@ Tracey D - thanks! I hope you enjoy!

@Maria - LOL thank you!

@Hiya Cecile - *waving back with a huge grin* Terrific list you got there!

@ Annalisa - thank you and what a great list! I see a lot of my favorites in there!

@Kissa - thanks so much for having at your blog!! I love the cover as well - I thought it was just perfect for the story. (Plus I LOVE purple!)
@ Jennifer M - thanks! I haven't seen many new releases from Johanna Linsdey... Are there more Malorys out? Must go check it out...

@Lorie S - thank you!!!

@Kissa - don't you love how an author can influence a person long after they are gone? I think my mom is an Agatha Christie fan as well - I want to say she'd read a bunch of her stuff in Russian.

@Oww Thanks Beth! I hope I'll be able to personally say 'thank you' to Nora someday. (and Kirk Cameron lol)

What a powerful post, Fi. I know you, but reading something like this really helps me to know you more.

Huh. I wonder if Nora has any idea that she did something like make a young girl in a foreign country (whose supply of books was quickly drying up) feel not only more comfortable in her new world, but really start to love it. Nora (and Growing Pains) opened up a window to you.

No small thing.

One author I used to follow was V.C. Andrews. I never got into the new ones though. How that author keeps writing after dying so many years ago I'll never know. : ) My mother is an Agatha Christie fan and I believe has ever book she ever wrote.
