What Have You Done For Yourself Lately?I want to start off by saying a huge thank you to Kissa for letting me come over and take her blog over for the day…..It is a pleasure to be here. Kissa is such an amazing and talented author who I am a big fan of.I’m probably not alone when I say I wish there was more time in the day. Yes 24hrs is not enough…..As an author I find myself working late most night’s and trying to get everything done on time. If it is a deadline or promotion…it is other stuff…I tend to get so wrapped up in my work that I forget to take breaks or rest. I keep telling myself I will do it in a little bit….Minutes tick by and the break doesn’t happen…The day is over and by that time I’m tired. I will be first to admit that I’m one of those people who does that….It is a bad habit. I’m working on changing this. Habits are hard to break……
I’ve come to the conclusion that no matter what I have to start taking breaks, time outs or even small vacations. Do things for myself. What good are you when you are tired and can’t focus? When was the last time I did something for myself? I can’t remember. I keep telling myself that I will book a spa day so that I may get pampered but I keep putting it off. There is not enough time. Yes that little excuse we all use….I know I’m not alone when it comes to that one….
Why is it that we push ourselves to work hard on other things but we forget to look after ourselves? We work hard when we are healthy and we work just as hard when we are stuck with a bug. We ignore the fact that we have to step away and take time for ourselves. I know vacations, spa days and days off can wait….but how long do we have to keep waiting before we give in take some time to rest and relax? Has it come this that we have to schedule relaxation time? I hope not. Can you imagine booking your break? I know that I’m one of those people who has to taking more breaks and making time to rest instead of pushing till exhaustion hits. It won’t help in the long run.We have to listen to ourselves and learn to put our well being first.Savannahwww.savannahchase.com
You’re a doll, Savannah. I’m so glad you agreed to drop by today. You are sooo right about writers, and everyone in the writing industry, not stopping to take the ‘me’ time we should.
I’ve overloaded myself with goals this summer. I’m thinking you may have prompted me to slow down a bit- or at the very least I’ll hurry to get done and then find time for fun. (Just kidding!)
Love ya girl!
Kissa thank you so much for letting me be here…I agree with you and sadly I will say that I don’t take the me time I need to….No matter what YOU come first and so does your health. If you are not well you will not be able to do anything…So what is the point of running yourself to exhastion….
Great reminder! I know that I am feeling the stress of being tied to the computer lately. When you are promo’ing, doing the group chatting, and trying to write…time flies by, and before you know it, your day is gone.
I’ve been thinking about buying an egg timer, and putting it right beside me. Set it for an hour, when it dings, I must get up and go enjoy life.
Thanks for the reminder! Great post!
Being a mother of two active girls my time is always spent on ficxing dinners and cleaning. Not time for my self. All I need is a couple hours to write and I’m happy. LOL
I do take some time to step away from my messy house. Husband and I often walk down to the beach or go for a short drive to Edmonds Marina where we could walk. Our last R and R was last summer. We spent two months in Europe. It was a blast. The only draw back to that was I hardly had any time to write. Although I came home loaded with writing materials.
Hey Debra,
I use my eggtimer when I word war with my self. LOL It’s very useful.
Debra, I think that is fantastic idea…..I know what you mean..time just gets away because there is always something that has to be done….It can never wait…
Tierney- I think that when we do take time to rest and we know there is stuff to be done there is a part of use the feels guilty and we end up putting off them time to rest….
I’m gonna have to try the egg timer thing…Maybe it will help me to remember to take breaks…
Savannah – I’m not sure I did it right, but I’ll leave my comment here! What I do when my lower back is bad (again) is put the oven timer on for 1 hour. When it buzzes, it will seem like 10 minutes passed, that’s good, because it shows you were giving you writing total concentration. then walk around the condo, pick a few things up, do a laundry with your other hand, whatever. Put the timer back on for 1 hour and go back to writing.
Have a great guest blog at Kissa’s.

Savannah – i forgot to say this: Writing to me is a great pleasure, I feel relaxed and happy when I’m writing. So I don’t feel I need a rest from it!
Think about it — it’s the most wonderful feeling in the world, being able to sit in front of a blank space on your PC and then filling it with words – your words!

Kate- When I’m writing or doing my promo or other author things I turn on my mp3 and just go with the flow and that is when I forget about taking a break…I’m so into what I’m doing and making sure I don’t forget anything that I just work away….Thank you for coming by the blog and leaving a comment.
The writing part is the bomb it is the other little things that tire you out. You have to find ways to balance family, work, life and following your dream and writing….I don’t imagine my life without my stories and I never want to stop. This is where I’m most happy…
I think you’re most happy because you’ve found something that you love and you are good at. The perfect combination!
Relaxation? What’s that? LOL I work at a spa part-time and my nails still look terrible, my curly hair is uncontrollable, and I’m in disparate need of a massage. My cure? I take the kids to the local High School & walk the track while they play on the slides and ect.
I also use an egg time.

I have always been good with words, it is my way to express myself and this is why I am most happy doing this…I get to bring worlds and characters to life….
Great blog, Savannah – I’m sure it struck a chord with many of us. It’s amazing how quickly time passes when we’re engrossed in writing. I know I forget about doing those little things for myself, like maybe eating or exercising…:-)
Glenys- I think since it is something we are so passionate about we forget about rest…We have a hard time stepping away if even for a bit.
This year we started the year by spending ten days’ enforced rest in a small farming hamlet 900km from the city. It was good for us (even though I drank too much beer).
But, ja, I work far too much. It’s worse now that I’m editing as well, as that sucks up time I would have had for my writing, so I have even less time now to chill.
Being unemployed gives me an occasional day off, though less than you’d think.
