My Fishin’ Story

I went fishing Sunday and had such a good time. A friend of ours owns a farm and has a pond on it full of catfish, carp, and brim. At first all I focused on was being outside and enjoying nature. We bought two poles with us- four people were fishing. Hmmm, yeah this was a spur of the moment kind of trip. Turns out one pole was broken so now we’re down to one pole and four fishers. What’s a person to do? Well, I can tell you what we did.

Have you ever heard of a cane pole? They are made of cane and kinda flimsy. We took some rather large sticks, logs some might call them, and tied fishing string to the end. I caught two pregnant catfish that way!!! It was hilarious watching my hubby and son get them out of the water for me. (No, I don’t touch them- just catch them) It’s unusual for female catfish to take bait this time of year- they’re bedding and obviously very pregnant. I let both of the ones I caught go.

I took a picnic basket and our game bag, which goes almost everywhere with us. I played cards, ate snacks, visited with family, and walked my grandson around the pond. Talk about a perfect Sunday….

Oh yeah, did I mention that the first catfish I caught weighed over twenty pounds and was at least two feet long? And I ain’t jivin ya neither!

Hee, hee. Next time I will certainly take a picture. My hubby bought me a purple fishing rod for my birthday so I’ll be going again soon I’m sure!
